Rehabilitation in Denmark

DIGNITY is recognized by the Danish National Board of Health as a national centre specializing in the treatment of severely traumatized refugees.

We offer individual therapy for adults and children, group therapy or family therapy. Especially we pay attention to the whole family's well-being, and often we involve the spouse in the treatment.

Our rehabilitation program in Denmark is based on an interdisciplinary and bio-psycho-social model, which means that all patients are treated by a designated team consisting of four- six professionals working closely together in teams with all aspects of the survivors' overall life situation.

It is our experience that the patients' multiple problems highly interact with each other; thus, they are not reducible to a single central diagnosis or domain of suffering. Consequently the psychological, somatic and socio-economic issues are equally important, and an interdisciplinary and bio-psycho-social rehabilitation approach has been adopted as a guiding principle for all rehabilitation at DIGNITY.

The patient is always the one in focus at DIGNITY. Nevertheless we expect the patient to take responsibility and actively participate as an equal partner in the interdisciplinary treatment process.

TORTURE IS A DRAG ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY

Torture has been called ‘the mother of all human rights violations’. As long as a country practices or tolerates torture, people will be reluctant to speak, assemble and participate in the political life. Stopping torture is the first step towards improving human rights in general.
